PERSONAL CLIMBING SKILLS
Meet assessor, hand in log books &
home paper
You will
be operating in pairs. The aim is to see if you can climb competently and
safely, the grade is not really relevant. Each candidate will be asked to
select a route. All aspects of good climbing practice will be assessed. At
the top you should arrange your belay in the conventional way. You will also
be asked to lower each other and lock off the belay plate. You will also be
asked to abseil (retrievable).

GROUP CLIMBING SKILLS
You will be asked to take up to six
students climbing. You will be assessed from the moment you meet your group
not just on your rope work. You will be expected to top and bottom rope with
your group and to provide an abseil.
Individual debriefs and results. |
GENERAL
COMMENTS
- My aim is to help you demonstrate
that you have the required skills to be an SPA holder in any location in
England, Scotland, N. Ireland and Wales. But there should always be an element
of learning and suggestions may be made, do not think you have failed because
the assessor is showing you an alternative way of doing something.
- If you are in doubt, ask your
assessor.
- You will receive feedback at the end
of each day. However this should not be interpreted as a pass or fail. A final
result can only be reached after both days
- Any equipment used (with the
exception of ropes) will be deemed as yours even if it comes from us, if you
are not happy with any equipment see your assessor.
- On the days with real students you
will be responsible for kitting them out.
- You cannot fail your assessment
because of the oral exam. Come prepared.
