MLTE Single Pitch Award (SPA) Training

You will need your logbooks. Your Instructor is Chris Allen.

This is the benchmark award for those wishing to introduce others to safe, structured climbing and abseiling on single pitch crags.  This course is run over a two-day period and includes safe current practises and positive approach to the outdoors and climbing. 

Therefore, if you are in the teaching, instruction, or group leading, then we are sure that you will benefit form this training course.  We promise that our staff are up-to date with current techniques and all courses are run by AMI instructors.

TRAINING PROGRAMME. 

Day 1 Personal SKILLS 9.00am to 4.30pm 

Introductions course brief and relevant paper work.

Harnesses correct choice and fitting, anchor selection, fixed and running belays (equal and independent anchors), rope and sling use, knots and their uses, choice of route, climb a route of your choice, abseiling, locking off and lowering personal protection etc. 

Evening 6.30pm to 7.30pm 

Equipment review; environmental issues climbing quiz at pub or my house. 

Possible visit to a climbing wall. 

Day 2 GROUP SKILLS 9.30am to 4.30pm 

Duty of care, your role and responsibilities, qualities of a single pitch crag, aims, guide books and maps, group management, top roping, bottom roping, abseiling, problems and emergencies.

Course debriefs.  5.00pm
